MDC to host women’s shooting academy in Columbia this June

Register to attend a free series of courses introducing women to basics of shooting sports.  
COLUMBIA, Mo. –The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will host a Discover Nature – Women’s Basic Shooting Academy this summer.  The academy will consist of a classroom session followed by two mentored shooting sessions. 
MDC invites women ages 18 or older, or girls ages 14 and older if accompanied by an adult, to attend this exciting and educational experience.  At this special shooting academy, participants will learn the basics of firearms safety, shooting techniques, equipment, target shooting, hunting, and more. 
“This shooting academy will provide women a great opportunity to learn useful techniques and gain experience with firearms in a safe setting,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Brian Flowers. “We’ll introduce women to new ways of enjoying nature, and leave them with the knowledge and confidence to help them continue shooting on their own.”   
The classroom session on June 1 will take place 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the MDC Central Region Office, 3500 E. Gans Road, in Columbia.  The mentored shooting sessions will take place at local shooting ranges, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on June 8 and 15
MDC offers this educational opportunity for no cost to participants, and all equipment and supplies will be provided.

MDC teaches outdoor skills at Women's Spring Fling

Registration open for April 29-May 1 camp at Lake Doniphan near Excelsior Springs



Kansas City, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will teach outdoor skills at the annual Women’s Spring Fling April 29 to May 1 at Lake Doniphan Conference and Retreat Center near Excelsior Springs, Mo. This weekend retreat provides a safe and friendly environment where women can learn about outdoor recreation.
   Participants will receive hands-on training for activities of their choice such as archery, atlatl, backpacking and camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, orienteering and geocaching, outdoor cooking, champion trees and leaf prints, and wild edibles. The Spring Fling is offered to women 18 and older. Young ladies ages 14 to 17 may also participate when accompanied by an adult woman.
   All training provided by MDC staff and volunteers is free. However, there is a $20 registration that is refundable at check in. The registration deadline is April 8.
   Lake Doniphan is a private retreat center, and fees are charged for lodging and meals. The cost depends on accommodations. The center offers hotel-style rooms, dormitory style, rustic cabins with electricity, and camping with electricity.
   MDC connects people with nature. Women’s Spring Fling offers a variety of outdoor activities during the heart of the spring season, a beautiful time to be outdoors.

MDC offers women's archery class in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites women ages 18 or older (girls 14 and up may accompany an adult participant) to discover nature by learning the basics of archery. The program will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the MDC Regional Office, 3500 E. Gans Road in Columbia. The program is free, but registration is required by July 31.
From learning about archery equipment and shooting techniques to hunting and safety tips, women will get to discover nature by learning the fundamentals of archery through a two-part program. The first part will be a classroom lesson. The second part will be a mentored shooting experience. All equipment will be provided for this program.
“Archery is a growing sport and one the entire family can participate in,” said MDC Outdoors Skills Specialist Brian Flowers.

Discover Nature Women events occur throughout the year. Many are hunts that include in-depth clinics addressing wildlife biology, regulations, firearm training and safety, specific hunting-method training, as well as cleaning and care of the game. Discover nature with MDC through women’s outdoor-skills workshop

Weekend of outdoor fun will teach hands-on outdoor skills. Registration deadline is
April 25.
JEFFERSON CITY Mo -- The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites women to have a weekend of fun while learning various outdoor skills at its annual “Discover Nature--Women Summer Workshop.” The weekend of hands-on learning will be May 30 to June 1 at the Windermere Baptist Conference Center in Roach along Lake of the Ozarks.  Registration deadline is April 25.
The workshop provides a safe and friendly environment where women learn hands-on outdoor-skills at the beginner level by selecting a group of four courses from the following offerings: archery, basic hunting, canoeing, introduction to firearms, plant-animal-tree identification, camping, fishing fundamentals, fly tying, map and compass reading, and shotgun shooting. Women attending for the first time are encouraged to attend the program a second year to complete four additional courses.
The special weekend is targeted to women 18 years and older, along with young women age 14-17 when accompanied by a woman 18 years or older. The workshop is free, but a $20 deposit is required at the time of registration and will be refunded at check in. There is no deposit fee for young women aged 14–17 when registered with an adult.

Various lodging options are available at the Windermere Conference Center including lodge, motel, cabin, and camping. Accommodation prices will vary with the number of participants per room.
The weekend will begin with lunch on Friday and will end with lunch on Sunday. MDC will provide dinner on Saturday at no cost to participants. Workshop-weekend meal costs through Windermere are $5.50 for breakfast, $7 for lunch, and $8.25 for dinner.
