Missouri Trails Advisory Board Meeting April 26

 The Missouri Trails Advisory Board will meet Saturday, April 26, to discuss grant applications for the federal Recreational Trails Program. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at 1659 East Elm St. in Jefferson City.

The board will review and make funding recommendations for 28 Recreational Trails Program grant applications for the federal Fiscal Year 2014 funding. Funding recommendations to the Department of Natural Resources and the Federal Highway Administration are based on the application’s suitability under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21) and other federal guidelines.

The Recreational Trails Program is a federally funded grant program for trail-related construction, maintenance, restoration and development. In Missouri, Recreational Trails Program funds are administered by the Department of Natural Resources in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration.

Public Invited to Share Ideas about Katy Trail State Park June 4

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 24, 2011 – The public is invited to bring their ideas to an informational meeting on Saturday, June 4 to discuss issues related to the section of Katy Trail State Park between Matson and Portland.  The open house will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Katy Trail State Park's trailhead at Dutzow. 

Recent accomplishments and future plans will be highlighted during the open meeting, including drainage and trail surface repairs in the trail. Visitors are invited to share comments on the park’s services and operations.  Information about volunteer opportunities will be available.

This informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort to ensure citizens have input on facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites.

Open house planned May 21 for Montauk State Park

JEFFERSON CITY, MO., MAY 12, 2011 – The public is invited to bring their ideas to an open house Saturday, May 21, at Montauk State Park near Salem.  The open house

will begin at 8 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater located in the campground loop #4. In the event of rain, the meeting will be moved to the J. Ben Searcy Building across the road from the park’s lodge.

Recent accomplishments at the park and future plans will be highlighted during the informal meeting. Visitors will be invited to share comments on the park's goals and objectives.

Get Out and Play! May 14 at Washington State Park

Image via WikipediaJEFFERSON CITY, MO., APRIL 21, 2011 -- Take the opportunity May 14 to "Get Out and Play!" at Washington State Park near De Soto. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, this free event is open to visitors of all ages, and will include family-friendly games, activities and crafts.

During this second annual event, special booths will be set up around the Thunderbird Lodge and in the Big River day-use area from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. Each booth will feature an activity or subject for visitors to explore and learn more about, including nature crafts, guided petroglyph tours, kite flying, native plants, bird watching, games and much more. Visitors are also encouraged to hike the park's trails, explore the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the park, and even wade in the Big River.

Washington State Park is located on State Highway 104 off Highway 21 between De Soto and Potosi. The park offers many amenities, including a campground with basic and electric sites; a showerhouse with laundry facilities; campground programs; a modern pool; cabins with full kitchens; canoe and raft rentals; a camp store and gift shop; 10 miles of hiking trails; and several picnic sites throughout the park.
