Kid’s Fishing Day at Wallace State Park on June 20

Kid’s Fishing Day at Wallace State Park will be held on Saturday, June 20. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks and the Missouri Department of Conservation, the event will start at 9 a.m. and children aged 5 to 12 can fish for free. The event will be held at Lake Allaman in the park, and will run until12 p.m.

Fishing poles will be provided to the first 40 kids to register that morning. Kids that bring their own poles do not need to register. Bait and assistance will be provided. Parents are encouraged to attend. A nature display and drawings for prizes will take place at the Open Shelterhouse.

Wallace State Park is located six miles south of Cameron on Highway 121. From Interstate 35, take Exit 48, go south on Highway 69 for one-half mile, and then take Highway 121 for one mile to park entrance. MDC Family Fishing Fair scheduled for Shepherd of the Hills

Young anglers will have a chance to experience the fun of fishing at the Missouri Department of Conservation's Family Fishing Fair event June 6, at Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery near Branson.

Educational stations, magic act will also be part of June 6 event.

BRANSON, Mo. – Young anglers will have opportunities to catch fish and learn about fishing at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Family Fishing Fair June 6 at a specially stocked pool at MDC's Shepherd of the Hills Hatchery near Branson. The event, which is aimed at anglers ages 15 and under, will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Bluegill and channel catfish will be the fish anglers will be trying to catch, but the event is about more than hooking fish. Educational stations will help young anglers learn to tie knots, filet and cook fish, rig up a fishing pole, cast a fly rod and other fish-related activities. Free goodie bags will be given to all youth participants and there will be a drawing for a rod and reel at the end of the day.

Also at the event will be MDC’s “My First Fish” station. Young anglers who make their first catch can bring their fish to this station to have a photo and information taken for a certificate that will be mailed to the family.

The “Fishin’ Magicians” will also perform. This local magic act will entertain with fun magic and, at the same time, pass on educational messages about the importance of caring for our water resources.

A limited number of loaner fishing poles will be available, but it’s suggested that all anglers bring their own fishing equipment (and cooler, if they plan to keep fish).

Bennett Spring to hold Kids' Fishing Day May 2

LEBANON, Mo. – Young anglers will have opportunities to catch fish and learn about fishing at Bennett Spring State Park’s Kids’ Fishing Day. This event will be held 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on May 2 at Bennett Spring State Park. The event is being sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other sponsors.

At Kids’ Fishing Day, children age 15 and under can pick up free trout tags at the hatchery shop on May 1 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. or at the registration tent across from the park store on the day of the event. A section of Zone 2 and Zone 3 at the park will be reserved for youth anglers. Volunteers will be on hand to help. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment. Parents are welcome to help kids, but adults are also asked to let children fish by themselves as much as possible. Only one pole may be used between the helper and the child. Adults are not allowed to fish in the designated kids’ fishing zone. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Educational events will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help with this event. Individuals wishing to volunteer do not need to be experienced anglers. Anglers age 15 and under can fish for trout for free at May 2 event.

LICKING, Mo. – Young anglers will have opportunities to catch fish and learn about fishing at Montauk State Park’s Kids’ Fishing Day. This event will be held 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. onMay 2 at Montauk State Park. The event is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

At Kids’ Fishing Day, children age 15 and under can pick up their free trout tag at the registration booth from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 1 or on the day of the event. The spring branch from the CCC Spillway to the Social Hole will be reserved for the youth anglers and stocked with trout all day. Volunteers will be on hand to help out. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment. Parents are welcome to help the kids, but only one pole may be used between the helper and the child. Adults are not allowed to fish by themselves in the area designated for youth fishing.

Education is also part of Kids’ Fishing Day. Throughout the day, seminars will be held on topics related to trout fishing, fly tying, fly casting, and other topics. A Stream Table exhibit will also be on display.

There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day. Individuals must be present to win. Free hotdogs and soda will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

June 9 and 10 are Free Fishing Days in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY–The best things in life are free, sometimes. The weekend of June 9 and 10 is one of those times, as the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is suspending fishing-permit requirements for those two days.

MDC designates the weekend after the first Monday in June as Free Fishing Days in Missouri each year. The idea is to encourage people to explore the state’s fishing opportunities without having to purchase permits, trout stamps or trout park daily tags.

Fishing is a lifetime sport, something equally doable whether you are 9 or 90. Free Fishing Days is designed to encourage lapsed anglers and first-time fishers to wet a line at one of Missouri’s more than 300 MDC-owned or managed fishing lakes, ponds or stream accesses. Carefully managed fisheries at these areas produce an abundance of opportunities to catch fish ranging from crappie and catfish to trout and muskellunge.

Normal fishing regulations, such as limits on size and number of fish, remain in effect during Free Fishing Days. Regulations are outlined in the 2012 Summary of Missouri Fishing Regulations, which is available wherever fishing permits are sold, or online at www.mdc.mo.gov/node/6108. Special permits may still be required at county, city and private fishing areas. Free Fishing Days exempts anglers from MDC permit and tag fees only, not parking or other park fees.
