Noblett Lake Temporarily Closed, Effective August 31, 2011


AVA, Missouri – Mark Twain National Forest is temporarily closing Noblett Lake to the public, effective August 31, 2011.
Law enforcement investigators are looking into the discovery August 17, 2011 of loss of all the water at Noblett Lake, located south of Willow Springs, Missouri in Douglas County.
Mark Twain National Forest Ava/Cassville/Willow Springs District Ranger Jenny Farenbaugh said the following areas are temporarily closed to the public:
1.      Entering Forest Road 857 from the gate located west of the Ridge Runner Trailhead to Noblett Lake parking lot, including the lake spillway. 
2.      Entering any area behind the orange barrier fence located at Noblett Lake shoreline, or any portion of the lake bed.
3.      Entering any portion of the pedestrian and equestrian trail located between Noblett Lake Pavilion and Noblett Lake spillway that parallels Noblett Lake shoreline.
“These restrictions are necessary for public safety and to protect National Forest property,” Farenbaugh said.
Noblett Day Use area is still open, and visitors can still access nearby Ridge Runner Trail.
