CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Registration has opened for the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Naturalist Training Camps at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. Ages seven to 11 are invited to see if they could handle being a naturalist.
Sara Turner, manager of the center, said MDC naturalists will lead the children as they learn about unique habitats and experience the natural world through a new perspective.
“Summer is a time when children can truly connect with the outdoors,” Turner said. “These camps are all about helping them to discover nature.”
Dates for the free two-day camp sessions are June 9-10, June 11-12, June 16-17, June 18-19, July 7-8 and July 9-10. Each camp day is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Turner said each parent or guardian may only register their own child and children may only attend one camp session each.
“These camps fill up fast and we want as many children possible to have the opportunity to attend,” Turner said.
Registration begins May 15 at 8 a.m. Parents may call 573-290-5218 to register. Find more nature programs at mdc.mo.gov/capenaturecenter.
