MDC and Stealth Gobblers hosting Aug. 27 youth event

Free youth outdoor skills event will teach hunting and fishing skills

Warrensburg, Mo. – Young people in the Warrensburg area will have a chance to get free hands-on instruction in outdoor skills 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the University of Central Missouri trap and skeet range, 501 Road and Division Road. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is sponsoring the J.A.K.E.S. event along with the Stealth Gobblers Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. J.A.K.E.S. stands for Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship.
This event is open to youths ages 8 through 17. Adults must accompany youths age 13 and under.
MDC staff and volunteers will teach trap shooting, shotgun patterning, game calling, archery shooting, fishing, and much more. Equipment, including shotguns and ammunition, will be provided. Youths are encouraged to bring their own shotguns and ammunition if they own them, especially if they plan to participate in the fall turkey hunting season.
Lunch will be provided and door prizes will be given away.
